For 2017 I've set myself the Mini Print Project.
Every month I will design and print a mini botanical themed print.
Each print will be a linocut.
The print itself will be no larger than A5.
Each print will be a limited edition of 10.
Here is January's print:
The print is a two colour linocut.
Hand finished with gouache.
Each print has been editioned and signed.
Paper size: 15cm x 22cm
Image size: 9cm x 15cm
Snowdrops are some of the first delightful little flowers that dare to poke their heads up to welcome in the new year. They are delicate and fragile in appearance, yet wilful little things. It always baffles me that such a tiny flower could cope with such extreme weather. We planted beautiful clumps in our garden a couple of years ago, though sadly this year they have not flowered. I felt that this flower summed up January rather nicely.
January to me isn't the most vibrant of months, and the snowdrop is usually seen against snow or grey skies. It's a month of simplicity and order after the excess and frivolities of christmas and I wanted that to reflect in the print. I chose to keep the decoration on the pot minimal for this reason.
Each print is hand burnished using a wooden spoon. I use oil based inks for their longevity and vibrant colour.
*The pictures are to illustrate design and colour. Due to the nature of the printing process, and hand painted elements, all prints have slight variations in depth of colour and placement.*
